On-line Counselling offers you a confidential, flexible format for professionally resolving your concerns. Wherever you live, whatever your circumstances, whenever you are able to access a computer you can access me and I will respond within 2 business days.
All counselling, whether on-line or in-person, is a serious commitment to exploring your inner life in a safe and confidential relationship with a therapist. Ultimately, therapy is about change --
- in your view of yourself as a person
- in your view of relationships with others (friends, partners, work colleagues)
- in your patterns of thinking (about emotions, about how to solve problems)
- in your behaviours
Working with the right clinician is critical. You want to be sure that the therapist is trained, credentialed, licensed and has experience in working with the concerns you bring.
Cyber-counselling adds yet another dimension - -- be sure that your counsellor has professional training in on-line counselling (it takes more than just knowing how to use the internet!), uses a confidential / encrypted form of e-mail communication and is able to respond to you in a timely manner.
On-line counselling is appropriate for you if you:
- need flexible timeframes of communication
- are comfortable with communication through encrypted, asynchonrous e-mail exchanges
- your schedule does not permit face-to-face appointments
- want to ensure complete confidentiality in the counselling relationship
- would like to explore:
- mild to moderate depression
- anxiety
- agoraphobia
- relationship concerns
- work-related concerns
- Jungian dreamwork
- issues pertaining to personal growth; life enhancement
- feelings of loneliness, isolation
- general sense of unhappiness in your life
- repetitive patterns which are not life enhancing
- adjustment to life issues (e.g. end of a relationship, job change, move)
On-line Counselling is not the right format if:
- you are currently feeling suicidal or at risk of self harm
- you are experiencing severe, debilitating depression
- you need more intense interaction than cyber-counselling can offer
- you are experiencing symptoms indicative of psychosis (e.g. auditory or visual hallucinations)
If you are feeling at risk in any way (suicidal thoughts, thoughts of self-injury) you should immediately got to your nearest Emergency Department or call your local Distress Centre.
